Even though the temps here in Phoenix have just barely ducked below triple digits, it still feels like the end of summer and we are getting excited to gear up for Fall! But wow, where the hell did the summer go!?
It has certainly been a busy summer here in the Awesome Kitchen, or rather I should say OUT of the kitchen. Jenni and I have been regular little jetsetters all summer long and even though we haven’t spent much time in the kitchen, we have had some amazing food experiences that will surly inspire some new creations!
Though we didn’t intend to take a break from the things we love, sometimes life just gets carried away. On top of all of the traveling we have had pretty busy personal agendas as well. I spent my summer planning my wedding and Jenni coordinated buying and moving into a new house. I don’t know where she found the time for that considering she was never in the freaking states!! But the good thing is that all of this vacation and travel time has super charged our creative juices and we are ready to dive into Fall!
Our summer highlights reel is a doozy, so let’s get to it!
This was pretty much my mantra for the summer…
And I lived it well. First up La Jolla, California.
There is nothing better than waking up and sipping coffee on the beach…
Drinking fresh lattes at cute beachside cafes…
…and ending the evenings with a night cap…puccino!
Then I took a little break to pop over to The Happiest Place On Earth!
Where the corndogs are nothing short of magical. These babies, are pretty much why I come here.
While we are talking noms… back to La Jolla, AGAIN, for some street tacos!
I am convinced that no vacation food adventure is complete without some pork belly.
And a little something to wash it all down…
…and a little something else…
…and maybe one more, because who can say no to a cucumbertini.

While I spent most of my summer drinking my way through California, Miss Jenni spent hers, well, fricking everywhere! Just look at this beautiful girl, kicking the summer off with a trip to…
…San Juan, Puerto Rico. Boom.
Where you can eat these little beauties. Drool.
Then she bounced across the ocean from the Atlantic to the Pacific to stick her toes in the sand and sip on some something tropical…
…and to nom on this burger with a magical purple bun!
Then her travels took her down South to Columbia. Just look at this amazing fruit stand!
And THIS amazing jackfruit that is the size of a small dog!
Columbia, where the empanadas are giant and meaty…
…this amazing combination of salty/sweet, hot/cold exists…
…as well as THIS crazy fried plantain ball…
…and churros that rival Disneyland. Delicioso!
Then she brings it back home to the west coast with a pizza and a martini and an ocean view.
